Infographic on the band : LakiMera

Overview
When I came across laki mera in the magazine called The Skinny, I did not think they would be this interesting to work on. It is a fairly new band which is described as modern day band like no other. The band’s main genre is Trip hop which is a mixture of electronic and folk music with abit of experimental samples. The band is signed to Just Music label. So I thought it would be a good idea to bring them to light.

A) Design:

The overall design was based on the fact that the band comes alive through the engineering of the band member called Andrea Gobbi. So I prominently used hexagonal shapes to illustrate the technology behind the music and the modern feel it portrays.

In addition, I used the map of Scotland to show the demographic of the band’s fans in their selected regions. I chose cool colours of purple and grey shades to symbolize the acoustic vibe of the music which is mainly about human connectedness through emotional and psychological factors. Inotherwards, I tried to balance the acoustic and yet electronic vibe the band represents.

In representing the inspirations for the two albums, I decided to use vector icons which symbolised the main events that inspired the two albums respectively. They are arranged vertically in a larger hexagon on the left side of the poster. This was to show a close up of where and what actually inspired the band. I also used vector icons to portray the style of music. The colour coding in the key is got from the album covers of the band. They portray that acoustic, mysterious and organic feel. Also, I included the fan base which was colour coded according to the social network or music sharing website.

B) Information:

I decided to add less information because the design would become busy. I arranged the information according to the shapes and layout of the overall poster.

I used a relatively tight kerned typeface which is sans serif called Champagne and Limousines. It is grouped under Modern typefaces. It is characterised by the large cap height and the geometric forms. I thought this was evident in their album covers and also the representation of the band as new, fresh with a technological approach to music. The hierarchy is arranged according to importance; the heading is the band name, then the inspirations for the albums. I used left alignment for the body text for the respective sections of the poster so that the viewer can easily read the text.

I decided to show few regions of Scotland because the band had not performed in those places or the habitant’s had not listened to their music.
Originally, I was going to put information from worldwide fans based on the social networks but I wanted to concentrate on Scotland since the band is based in Glasgow. The text is in white because I wanted to illustrate a clean look.
